Understand risks. Address weaknesses. Strengthen what matters.

## At a glance

A cybersecurity audit examines an authorized scope to identify vulnerabilities and propose prioritized corrections. Bump helps SMEs scope an audit, assess risks, secure applications and infrastructure, remediate issues and define follow-up after the engagement.

## Agree on the rules before examining systems.

An audit starts with explicit authorization and scope. Systems, exclusions, access, intervention windows and incident contacts need to be defined. Tests are adapted to the business’s constraints.

A point-in-time audit does not guarantee the absence of every vulnerability. It analyses a defined scope under specific conditions at a given time. Follow-up and corrections matter as much as discovery.

## Understand what exposes your business.

Depending on the engagement, the assessment may cover applications, configurations, access or infrastructure. Findings should be understandable and tied to potential impact so the team can decide what to address first.

- Identify weaknesses within the authorized scope.
- Distinguish observed facts from assumed risks.
- Describe conditions and potential impact.
- Prioritize actions around risk and business context.

## Move from findings to fixes.

Remediation can be included in the engagement or planned separately. Ongoing follow-up and its terms need to be specified; they are not automatically implied by an audit.

| Stage | Expected outcome to define |
| --- | --- |
| Authorized audit | Agreed scope, conditions and responsibilities |
| Findings analysis | Explained and prioritized weaknesses |
| Remediation plan | Proposed actions, owners and dependencies |
| Hardening | Corrections and protections implemented within the agreed scope |
| Verification and follow-up | Checked corrections and documented next actions |

## A weakness corrected, then checked.

> Illustrative scenario — fictional data, no client result claimed.

In an illustrative scenario, excessively broad application access is identified. The team reviews the required roles, reduces permissions and verifies that authorized users can still complete their tasks. The finding and correction are documented.

This scenario explains a possible approach. Indicators and vulnerabilities in the site’s demonstrations are fictional and do not describe any client system.

## Keep protection aligned with change.

Tools, accounts and integrations evolve. Maintenance may include checks, remediation tracking and reassessment after significant changes. Service levels, timelines and responsibilities are defined in the proposal.

The proposal specifies the selected protections, planned checks and approach to reassessing risks. This helps distinguish what has been addressed from what remains to be planned.

## How do you prepare an authorized cybersecurity audit?

Before testing, Bump agrees on scope with someone entitled to authorize the work. The goal is to examine risks relevant to your business while protecting its operations. Scoping also separates findings, agreed fixes and follow-up verification.

| Agree on | What your team prepares |
| --- | --- |
| Scope | The applications, environments and access involved, including exclusions. |
| Authorization | The person entitled to approve the work and the agreed rules. |
| Conditions | Timing, limits and contacts to use if a problem occurs. |
| Results | The format and priority of findings, and handling of sensitive information. |
| Follow-up | Agreed fixes and how their application will be checked. |

## Frequently asked questions

### Is an audit the same as a penetration test?

No. An audit may include different types of assessment, while a penetration test examines specific scenarios within an authorized scope. The exact method depends on objectives, risks and engagement conditions.

### Could an audit affect our operations?

Some checks may introduce operational risk. Scope, methods, exclusions and stop conditions are therefore agreed before intervention. Test planning depends on your constraints.

### Will we receive a remediation plan?

The proposal specifies deliverables. Our approach includes prioritizing findings and remediation actions; implementation and verification need to be explicitly scoped.

### Can we request remediation of known issues only?

Yes. Previously identified issues can be the starting point. Sufficient information is needed to understand the context, confirm authorization and define corrections and validation.

### Does a cybersecurity audit guarantee there are no vulnerabilities?

No. An audit examines a defined scope, at a particular time and using agreed methods. Findings help prioritize fixes and follow-up; they are not an absolute guarantee. Bump specifies the engagement’s limits and planned verification.
